ABOUT STUART THEOBALD

I help financial institutions, investors, philanthropies and policymakers design solutions that unlock growth and improve societies. As founder and executive chairman of Krutham, I lead teams that combine rigorous research, innovative finance, and deep emerging-market expertise to solve complex problems in financial systems. Our work spans Africa, supporting clients who want to deploy capital more effectively, build stronger markets, and achieve measurable impact. Where we create value- Innovative & outcomes-based finance: Designing outcomes funds, impact-linked structures, blended finance vehicles and other mechanisms that shift risk, reward and incentives to achieve social and economic goals- Capital-markets development: Advising exchanges, regulators, governments and DFIs on reforms that deepen markets, enhance competitiveness and improve investment flows- Strategic research & insight: Bringing 25 years of financial-sector analysis and academic research to help banks, asset managers, insurers and investors understand opportunities in emerging markets and make better strategic decisions- Public-policy engagement: Supporting governments, multilaterals and industry bodies to build policy frameworks that strengthen financial ecosystems and enable private-sector participation. I work at the intersection of research, finance and policy. My background blends financial analysis, consulting, and academic research. I’m also a research associate at the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science at the LSE, where I explore the theory and ethics underlying financial systems. Earlier in my career I was a journalist, serving as news editor of the Financial Mail and contributing editor to the Financial Times group. Krutham was founded (as Intellidex) in 2008 with a simple idea: financial systems can and should create public value. Today we work with a global community of banks, investors, donors, philanthropies and governments who share that belief. For fun I run marathons or cycle. I\'m usually in London, and frequently in Johannesburg and other African cities.
