ABOUT STUART SIMPSON

FCMA, CGMA. Head of Data / Lead Data Architect with 20+ years across financial services, owning enterprise data platforms and delivering multi-system transformation across core banking, treasury, ERP, payments, and regulatory reporting. I sit comfortably between architecture and delivery, so programmes move from definition to controlled implementation without the usual gap between “target state” and what actually runs in production.My work centres on enterprise DWH design, staged pipelines from raw to enriched to normalised data, lineage and metadata that stand up to audit, and control frameworks that keep Risk, Finance, Treasury and Regulatory aligned on the same numbers. I have led core banking and treasury migrations, rebuilt data estates that were dependent on opaque upstream logic, and delivered high-stakes regulatory and risk programmes including major control remediation where completeness, traceability and reproducibility matter.Recent highlights include designing and delivering an enterprise data platform for a UK bank spanning general ledger, sub-ledger, consolidation and extensive upstream sources, and building governed datasets with field-level lineage, reconciliation, and exception controls so reporting stops being “black-box code” and becomes an owned, explainable artefact. I work across FX, Rates, MM, derivatives, funds and lending, combining product knowledge with strong Python/SQL engineering to deliver platforms that are scalable, auditable and operable.I write about systems design, failure modes in transformation, and why good architecture—not tooling—determines long-term business outcomes.
