ABOUT STUART ELGIE

Stuart joined DIALOG in 2021 after having acquired two decades of experience focused in healthcare design with Stantec Architecture Ltd. His most recent role with that firm, from 2017 to 2020, was as Vice President, Health Sector Leader for Canada - as well as being Principal-in-Charge for both the $1.3B Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Phase 1C of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.Stuart has played key roles in a number of noteworthy projects over the years. He was project architect / project principal for Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, which received a Governor General’s Medal for Architecture in 2016, and the Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at George Brown College. His experience ranges across all stages of project execution, from master planning, design, and detailed construction documentation to contract administration. Stuart is well versed in all project delivery types: stipulated sum, construction management, and complex public-private partnerships.Regardless of project delivery methodology, Stuart understands that one must first understand the client’s vision and how they define success in order to achieve their goals. His experience as a client-side design advocate and design-build team leader enables him to identify opportunities and mitigate risks in the short and long term.Ultimately, what drives him is the pursuit of great design and the iterative actions leading up to its realization. He believes the challenge of design begins by listening to the client before identifying the possibilities, and then working within a team to find the best answer. Sometimes it’s a simple response, but the process of getting there involves the engagement and collaboration with many people. For Stuart, this is the fun part in being an architect.
