Staff Software Engineer @Edvisorly

View department →

Currently working with a small passionate team helping to grow, scale and evolve a platform that connects college students with universities. The work is a mix of modernizing legacy systems and driving new development with technologies like LLMs and AI agents.I work with NestJS, Next.js, React Native, MongoDB, and Postgres, focusing on architecture, developer experience, and scalability while also introducing new patterns and tools that move the platform forward. I work on every part of the system from growth, analytics, and infrastructure to API design and user-facing features on the frontend. It’s not a founding role, but it feels close. The team is small and the impact is big, and I enjoy figuring things out quickly, untangling complex code, and building systems that are both stable and innovative.

ABOUT SHANE SCHMALTZ

I’m a Staff Software Engineer who likes taking ownership of systems end to end. I enjoy understanding how things work today and making them better, whether that means improving what exists or building something new.At EdVisorly, I work across the stack: backend, frontend, infrastructure, analytics, and new AI features using Mastra and LLMs. I modernize what’s already there and build what the team needs next.Previously at:• Boulevard (BLVD) where I acted as engineering lead and manager for the payments team, handling technical planning and working closely with payment processors and settlement flows. • Neo Financial where I led development for Rewards and Card, helping build and scale one of Canada’s fastest growing fintech products. • Jobber where I improved core invoicing workflows, mentored engineers, and raised engineering standards. I like environments with high ownership where I can make things clearer and simpler for other engineers, and build features that deliver real value to the user.
