About Sierra MacIorowski
In 2017, the Tubbs Fire struck my hometown of Santa Rosa, California. In the aftermath, I committed myself to working against disasters like catastrophic wildfires, the environmental conditions that cause them, and the social determinants that make them dangerous—not just during the acute period of crisis, but for thousands of people for the rest of their lives, through health and economic harm.I spent two years working at the California Air Resources Board, first as an Executive Fellow in the Office of Environmental Justice, Tribal Affairs, and Border Relations and Office of Community Air Protection, then as the legislative and budget analyst on the policy team for California Climate Investments. Those two years of State experience gave me the opportunity to meaningfully engage with State policymaking processes, the path from legislative bill to policy implementation, and the effort to embed environmental justice and racial equity work into CARB\'s programs. At Stanford Law School, I aim to use my existing understanding of policy and legislation to inform my study of environmental justice and civil rights and liberties, and transition into movement lawyering with legal and policy roles at community-based organizations.
