Nationwide Produce PLC is one of the largest, longest-established and most diverse produce companies in Europe.What do we do? We grow, grade, pack, buy and sell fresh produce.The business started life as Bernard O’Malley & Co in 1975 from a small room in Bernard’s family home in Southport, Lancashire. It is now a truly international company having been recognised by the Sunday Times for two years running as one of Britain’s private companies with the fastest-growing international sales. We have operations in Spain, Belfast, Manchester, Lancashire, Spalding, Evesham, Southend and two in the Netherlands. We are also major importers with just over half the produce we buy coming from overseas.We have our own farming operation and grower group – Richmond Farms. We grow 340 acres of root crops in East Anglia and Lancashire under the Richmond Farms banner. The grower group now has 23 members and tonnes of dedicated root crops. Linked to this is a joint-venture production facility called Anglia Growing Partnership - a sq ft grading & packing factory on 8 acres at Long Sutton, Lincs jointly owned by Nationwide and QV Foods. We also have our own large production and cold-storage facility at Poeldijk, near Rotterdam.Our customers are in every sector of the market – retail, food-service, catering, processing, wholesale and export. They want to be able to buy a full range of veg, fruit and exotics from around the World every day… whatever the circumstances.And this is the service we provide to over 800 customers throughout Europe, every day of the year. Our main markets are retail, catering, processing, food service, packing, export and wholesale. In 2013/14 the Group turnover was €108m. We currently have 39 sales/procurement staff in 9 locations in 3 countries – Southport, Spalding, Evesham, Manchester, Southend, Belfast, Emmen, Rotterdam and Almeria. We sold 186 different types of produce to 819 customers in 22 countries. We bought produce from 715 suppliers in 64 countries. Just under 30% of sales were to customers outside the UK. Around half the produce we bought in 2013/14 (by Country of Origin) was from the UK and the other half from overseas. In volume terms this translates to around 13,300 articulated lorry loads of produce across the year – approximately 51 lorry loads per working day. We also farm 340 acres in Lincs, Lancs, Cambs, and Norfolk. Our grower group, Richmond Farms, has 23 members and tonnes of dedicated crops. We have a joint-venture onion packing facility with QV Foods – sq ft on an 8 acre site at Long Sutton, Lincs. We also have our own large production and cold-storage facility at Poeldijk, near Rotterdam.Because we have such a strong presence in every sector of the produce industry, we are able to offer our growers a whole crop marketing service and our customers a full range of produce from around the globe throughout the year.
