About Steve Wolpe
Steve Wolpe did his undergraduate work at Amherst College, received his Ph.D. from Univ. of Penna. and did post-doctoral work at Population Council and Rockefeller University. At Rockefeller he discovered the chemokines MIP1alpha, MIP1beta and MIP2 and wrote a seminal review paper that helped define the chemokine family, a critical group of proteins involved in inflammation and a variety of diseases. He then joined Genetics Institute (now Pfizer) where he became the MIP1alpha project leader, investigating its effects on hematopoeitic stem cells. He later moved to Pro-Neuron Inc, now one of the Wellstat Companies where he continued his work on stem cells and also led research teams developing drugs for diabetes, inflammatory disease and cancer. The diabetes drug was licensed to Sanofi for $350MM. Steve also worked closely with the CEO of Wellstat, who also founded Amgen, Applied Biosystems and IGEN/BioVeris, on business development, IP assessment and licensing. Steve is an independent biotech consultant with a wide variety of technologies and companies in the US and internationally. He is Vice President of Preclinical at Khloris Biosciences, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at BioHealth Innovation and a Contractor for the SEED Office at NIH.Specialties: Diabetes, immunology, inflammation, autoimmune disease, cancer and stem cells.
