ABOUT STEPHEN T.
Extremely flexible systems guy. SC Cleared from 10.2024I have been employed in the following roles in the recent past: System Engineer, Linux Solutions Architect, Linux System SME, Unix / Linux System Administrator, Technical Test specialist, Validation-Verification and Test Engineer, Test Team Lead, Senior Test Analyst, Senior Support Analyst. I have many years of experience as a Linux and UNIX Systems engineer and have also been an IBM MVS (Mainframe) Systems Programmer a few years back.I possess over 35 years IT experience and have multiple software skills, a vast knowledge of standard software, a talent for problem solving and the creation of novel and workable solutions to otherwise intractable problems. My personal preference is Linux or MAC OS. Since the early 1990’s I have been using Linux and UNIX boxes. I first installed SuSE linux onto my own personal hardware in 1996 and have installed and administered many Linux and Unix systems over the years in my professional capacity. I realise that my choice of OS is a totally individual choice and I am equally able to work within a Windows environment as an administrator or as technical support. I have performed this Windows / Linux balancing role during a number of contracts over the years. I am very familiar with and have installed, configured and supported VMware VSphere and ESXI many times. I have also used VMware workstation as my VM creation environment for preference although I also possess specialist knowledge of many of the other VM management systems including Oracle(Sun) VirtualBox and Parallels for Apple Mac,I have Engineer / Administrator level familiarity with the various Linux / UNIX flavours including: SuSE, Red-Hat, Debian, Ubuntu, Elementary, HP-UX, IBM AIX and Apple MAC OS/X. I am extremely competent with many of the shell languages including Korn, Bourne and Bash shells and I am also able to develop using PowerShell on Windows boxes. I am a developer for the Linux Kernel and have modified and compiled it to meet my own and user requirements. I have also been SME for many of the Linux/Unix sub-systems e.g. DNS, LDAP etc. The most recent example of this was the role at GE where I took on the Linux Solutions Architect role as well as the SME roles mentioned above. I also have specialist knowledge of the software configuration tools available for Linux including Puppet, Salt and Ansible.I am used to working for all sorts of clients including HM Government, European tyre manufacturers and satellite development projects.
