ABOUT STEVE SWICK
Steve Swick is a nationally recognized cyber expert with more than 35 years of combined military and corporate experience providing thought leadership and executive coaching in cyber security. Steve has testified as a security expert before the Senate Energy committee, he has briefed various congressional and senate committees, military/political leaders, and has been interviewed by various media outlets as a subject matter expert on cybersecurity. Prior to beginning a career in consulting, Steve Swick was the long-serving Chief Security Officer at American Electric Power (AEP), where he led the cyber and physical security teams that are responsible to protect the US’s largest power transmission network. Steve was also the Chief Privacy Officer and NERC CIP Senior Manager.Today, with CI-Discern, Steve is a managing director leading the power and utilities practice, he provides strategic security consulting and Virtual CSO/CISO services. This includes C-suite and board-level advisory, interim CSO/CISO assistance, and practical operational, risk management, and compliance services to guide hands-on teams. Steve began his career in US AirForce Intelligence and one of the original members of the U.S. Air Force’s nascent Computer Emergency Response Team. Steve joined American Electric Power (AEP) in 1998 to help develop and mature their cyber program. He assumed increasing levels of responsibility, eventually leading the enterprise physical and cyber security, NERC CIP, data privacy, aviation, and UAV governance teams. AEP is one of the largest energy companies in North America and is a critical part of the bulk electric system.Steve has been a Member of the Executive Committee for the Electric Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center (E-ISAC). He was on Governor Holcomb’s Indiana Executive Council on Cybersecurity and the Executive Committee Chair for the Energy Analysis & Resilience Center (ARC), which is a cross-sector organization designed to mitigate systemic risks to the nation\'s most critical infrastructure from existing and emerging threats. The ARC was jointly established by leaders from the financial and energy sectors.Steve is passionate about protecting the US from cyber-attacks, sharing knowledge and expertise with others, and advancing the cybersecurity profession. In addition to a bachelor\'s degree, he is a graduate of the FBI Domestic Security Executive Academy. He is a board member and chair of the audit committee for Fairfield Medical Center and is an advisor to both high school and college level institution cyber programs.
