About Steve Staley

Steve Staley has worked in the motion picture and television production industry for over 30 years. Starting as a camera operator and editor, and having been fortunate enough to work with some of the top DP’s and gaffers in the business, Steve quickly found that lighting and grip were a key to the success of the image for his clients. So in 1989, he began putting together his own lighting packages to use in his contracted productions and has been illuminating the scene since. From these acquisitions, with his wife\'s help, Steve and Nikki Staley\'s Kentucky Grip & Lighting has grown into Kentucky’s premiere production support house with four trucks and a large inventory of lighting and grip. In January of 2018 Midwest Grip & Lighting purchased KGL and added it to their list of shops that include Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and now Louisville. Steve still manages the shop here, but is now backed by the combined expertise and experience of the Midwest team and it\'s extensive array of equipment. The grip and lighting shop is located in Production Commons, a studio complex in Bluegrass Industrial Park with two shooting spaces, one of which is a permanent green screen stage, and the other is a large, white-cyc main stage with drive in access. The Studios are housed inside a complex where the main attractions are two production studios. The Main Stage offers 4,500 square foot of shooting space including a 42’ x 40’ x 16’ cyc wall that has a lighting grid pre-hung with spacelights for perfect illumination on the white cyc and a large elevated walkway (greenbed) along the back for ease of additional lighting. The square foot Greenscreen Stage has a pre-lit hard cyc greenscreen that is 25 feet wide and 16 feet tall. All that is needed is lighting for your subject. This is a white glove stage for production companies, which saves time and money. Check the website at Midwestgrip.com for more information.
