ABOUT STEVE SHILLINGFORD
Steven Shillingford Trainer, lecturer, and expert in homicide, sexual assault, and organized crime: Steven Shillingford is a federal Criminal Investigator, currently with the Department of the Interior, Inspector General\'s Office, Program Integrity Division. He is a retired homicide detective with the Fairfax County Police Department, the largest police department in Northern Virginia, where he worked numerous high profile murder cases. His areas of expertise include homicide, sexual assault, and organized crime. Mr. Shillingford provides training to law enforcement and civilian groups on violent crime and its impact on victims. He has lectured on criminology and criminal justice, homicide investigation, and sex crimes investigation for the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Attorneys Office, Federal Bureau of Prisons, George Mason University, Lutheran College Washington, Northern Virginia Community College, and a host of high schools. He was honored as the 2002 Homicide Investigator of the Year by the Virginia Homicide Investigators Association and received the 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 Award for Public Service from the U.S. Department of Justice (Eastern District of Virginia). Mr. Shillingford was one of several to receive a Team Excellence Award during the D.C. sniper investigation. Mr. Shillingford has a bachelor of science degree in criminology and criminal justice from Eastern Michigan University, and is well trained and skilled in the areas of violent crime and victimology.
