Manages LJI’s patent portfolio, including overall strategy and day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include preparing patent claims as well as full applications, reviewing foreign and domestic Patent Office correspondence and determining response strategies, as well as coordinating with outside counsel, inventors, and collaborators to prepare and file applications and effective replies. Drafts and negotiates Commercial Sponsored Research Agreements, Licensing Agreements, and Inter-Institutional IP/Technology Management Agreements.Evaluates Invention Disclosures by facilitating discussion of new or improved technologies with inventors and patent counsel, performing patentability and FTO searches, monitoring competing technologies, and working with senior administration to effectively partner technologies and related IP. Responsible for Bayh-Dole compliance reporting of all federally-funded Invention Disclosures and patent filings.

I\'m currently the Senior Manager of Intellectual Property at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology in San Diego, California. I\'m a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and received my J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.S. in life sciences (microbiology) from Purdue University. My California Bar Number is 292972, and my United States Patent & Trademark Office Registration Number is 73161. Prior to joining the office of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property at LJI, I worked as a patent associate at JDI Patent in Fremont, CA. Previously, I worked as a contract manager and legal consultant for Stryker Neurovascular, a global manufacturer of medical devices.During law school, I interned at the Northern California Innocence Project and the California DNA project, where I used my life-sciences background to assist with post-appellate criminal exoneration cases for the falsely imprisoned. Additionally, I interned with TMI Associates in Tokyo, Japan, and studied Japanese Patent Law with TMI founding partner Yoshiyuki Inaba.My longstanding career goal is to assist in advancing research for medicine and biotechnology, while maintaining a socially responsible outlook on the future of those fields.
