About Steven Wong
Leading the Intellectual Property functions for a Fortune 20 giant has fulfilled my dual passions for technology and business. While I chose computer science over business as an undergraduate, my law school education has enabled me to apply my technical knowledge in a way that aligns with business strategy. I am fortunate to work in an environment that keeps me motivated with constant challenges and opportunities for growth.Unlike many IP attorneys, I like to take a broader vision of my company’s goals and participate in driving those goals from a business perspective. I am equally adept at partnering with engineers and non-engineers on issues from IT to Merchandising, Private Brands, and Marketing. I can communicate with engineers on a highly technical level and also explain complex patent and trademark matters to executives in an understandable manner. These qualities, coupled with my consistent delivery of legal work that exceeds expectations, have earned me multiple promotions at the Home Depot. I now lead all aspects of global IP, including strategy, portfolio management, transactions, and disputes. My global oversight includes: 900+ active worldwide patent matters 9K+ active trademark matters 500+ copyright matters 3K+ registered domain names Thousands of annual trademark searches A significant outside counsel budget Additionally, I supervise team of four as well as outside counsel. In appreciation of those who have advocated on my behalf throughout my career, I continue to pay it forward by advocating for my direct reports who are also deserving.
