VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is one of the largest and most complex VA health care systems in the nation, serving over Veterans across five counties in Southern California. A member of the VA Desert Pacific Integrated Service Network, VA Greater Los Angeles features a tertiary care hospital in West LA (formerly known as the Wadsworth VA; 172 beds), two ambulatory care centers (one in the San Fernando Valley and one in Downtown LA), and seven community-based outpatient clinics (Bakersfield, East Los Angeles, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, San Gabriel, and Santa Barbara). The health care system includes two Community Living Centers (i.e, nursing homes – one in West LA and one in the Valley – with a total of 284 beds) and the largest Domiciliary in the US, a 296-bed facility that provides residential mental health rehabilitation and substance use treatment to men and women Veterans.VA Greater Los Angeles provides array of primary care and specialized services, with the exception of transplantation surgery and certain specialized neurovascular procedures. The health care system has over employees, including more than physicians and other health care providers.VA Greater Los Angeles strives to fulfill President Lincoln\'s promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America\'s Veterans. To achieve this goal, GLA pursues its three-part mission:(1) To provide outstanding clinical care to Veterans;(2) To educate and train the next generation of health care professionals who will care for Veterans; and (3) To conduct scientific investigation that identifies new and effective treatments that will improve the lives of Veterans.
