About Steven Riggs
After growing up and attending college in the Northwest, I\'ve made Orange County California my home since 1977. My entire career has been in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, owning an architectural firm early on and evolving into the construction side of the business where my career grew from field management to project management, to project executive, division manager and business development management. For more than 30 years, as the AEC industry changed I’ve embraced developments in technology and contributed as green building and alternative delivery methods altered the playing field. Design-Build delivery and building information modeling (BIM) are just two of the areas that allow timely and accurate information flow thereby creating a more seamless and efficient method of project implementation. Today, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Public, Private Partnerships (P3) are the latest innovations that have my focus. My diverse background uniquely qualifies me as a business development and marketing professional. In Business Development, the importance of professional relationships has become increasingly clear. Owners don’t hire businesses, they hire people. Therefore social networking has become critical to building professional relationships. My focus is on using all available tools to grow my network and teaching others how to do the same. As my career matures, mentoring has become extremely important. Giving back by guiding those newer to our industry is a passion. I volunteer in a program that matches Mentors with Protégées and guides them through training. Specialties: Writing, Speaking and Presentations to industry professionals on Marketing, Business Development, Branding, Design-Build delivery of retail, commercial, civic and public school projects, both K-12 and higher education. Training focused on effective negotiating skills, financial accountability, driven performance and leadership.
