About Steven Kelley
At my core I’m a builder, a problem solver and a teacher, and those skills have been the foundation for my success in life and in my career.Like many engineers I was a builder and fixer as soon as I was old enough to hold a tool. I began by fixing my broken toys and progressed to building model trains and rockets. As a dad, I fixed the next generation of toys, built forts/swing sets and tackled home repairs. From an early age I was driven to fix and build things that met a specific need. Fast forward to my career, and I use that purpose-driven approach to ensure that my IT organizations always deliver on the one most important need of the business—enabling growth.Starting my career, there was no better place to hone my problem-solving skills than with Accenture where I applied those skills every day in the financial services, communications, manufacturing and high-tech industries. I used the frameworks that were innate to me as a child and that I further developed in my engineering studies to solve my clients’ complex problems. The biggest difference at Accenture was that I was no longer working alone in my workshop. I was collaborating with a team of experts who ensured that we always delivered top-flight solutions. And that collaborative environment brought out the teaching skills that I had also honed early on. As a tutor for other students when I was in high school, as a wilderness skills instructor at Vanderbilt and as a coach for my son’s baseball team, I found that I was a natural born teacher—but more than just a teacher—I was a builder of people. I taught them skills and built their confidence and self-sufficiency. Today, I leverage my “builder” approach with my teams. My dedication to each individual, to their development and to their success has enabled me to build agile, engaged, high-performing teams who are always stretching themselves.I still tinker in my workshop, but I get my greatest satisfaction building individuals, teams and businesses.
