About Steven Wencis
I have had the good fortune to spend most of my career to date in the data center industry. This has included significant roles in each phase of the lifecycle of the data center from design as a registered professional electrical engineer through construction, commissioning, operations and end of life replacement strategies. These roles have taken me across the Unites States and the globe through projects I have designed, built or both. For the last 10 years I have been in various Operations roles for Digital Realty centered around operational efficiency and reliability. This has allowed me to see the “other side” and delve into detailed root cause analysis and risk mitigation strategies when things (or people) fail, evaluate new products/technologies/designs and develop global maintenance & operations standards and processes to ensure consistency for our global customers. I am looking forward to seeing what industry changes come next as we test new technologies in the UPS/battery/cooling realm and investigate new maintenance ideas like using AI and machine learning to do predictive maintenance rather than time based or reactive. Not to mention the challenges of the flood of GPUs and resulting power and cooling issues or the stricter emissions standards for diesel engine/generators that make permitting them more difficult. Gotta love the data center world.
