ABOUT STEVEN WARD

I joined the Army straight from school, serving for 3 years and specialising in telecommunications and cryptography. As well as discipline, hard work and travel, I learned the key skill that would forge my career - teamwork.Then came an IT apprenticeship with National Grid. I worked in 2nd line support until the Energy Settlements business was purchased by IT outsourcing giant Logica. At Logica I led Sys Ops and then became a Unix Engineer. I managed cross platform support for customers running critical national infrastructure, including reponsibilities for ITIL, ISO9001, ISO27001 compliance. This also included short stints running a data centre and designing Disaster Recovery solutions.After Logica (now CGI) closed their Nottingham site, I moved to Siemens Metering and Communications Services. I was a subject matter expert in Unix infrastructure. My experience with critical national infrastructure meant that I was a senior technical resource. I continued to progress my career within Siemens, managing workflow and was responsible for designing, building and managing technical solutions, as well as knowledge transfer and training to team members.In 2016, I was part of a team delivering a data centre, DR and office move in under 6 months. This meant redesigning and rebuilding our IT infrastructure from scratch, alongside subject matter experts from other disciplines. It was the most critical project in the company\'s history. My responsibilities included migrating and upgrading physical servers, storage arrays, fibre switches, backup technologies, cybersecurity and cross site replication. The success of the project and my key role in technical and commercial enhancements accelerated my career. It led to me taking on responsibility for vendor management and new technologies and deputising for IT managers.From 2017, I was responsible for the delivery of cloud technologies, as a Cloud Engineer in AWS and Azure. I helped to design and implement secure cloud based solutions.20••••21 I was one of the leaders of a Digitalisation programme which migrated the majority of our IT infrastructure to AWS.20••••24 I managed IT Infrastructure Operations. This included managing and advancing personnel, vendor and customer relationships and reducing budgets without hindering service delivery.From 2025 I have been Senior Infrastructure Manager for Royal Mail. Responsibilities are managing and supporting partners to deliver quality services across an enormous enterprise.Outside work I ran a local charity as Treasurer and Chair from 20••••12.
