ABOUT STEVEN THOM
I have extensive experience in residential real estate law, with a particular focus on leasehold enfranchisement matters. I advise clients on the technical aspects of:• lease extension and enfranchisement claims under the Leasehold Reform Act 1967;• the right of first refusal provisions of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987; • landlord compliance matters relating to assured shorthold tenancies under the Housing Act 1988;• collective enfranchisement and lease extension claims under the Leasehold Reform Housing and Urban Development Act 1993; and• right to manage claims under the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002. My practice covers a wide range of residential real estate matters, including complex and high value enfranchisement claims, advisory work for landlords on regulatory and compliance issues, due diligence on land acquisitions and structuring advice for developers to take them from site acquisition through to executing exit strategies. I also regularly act on the sale and purchase of high end residential properties, particularly in the Prime Central London market. I act for clients based in the UK and overseas. Clients include landlords, tenants, high net worth individuals, private capital investors, developers, funders, build to rent operators, real estate investment trusts, family offices, public trusts, banks, pension funds, governments and other public bodies.
