About Steven Swann
A seasoned cross-functional and cross-cultural leader with a 10-year track record of spearheading policy initiatives and advising policy changes based on robust research and analysis, I am an impact-focused strategist with an eye toward illuminating the impact of public policy on real people. In May 2020, I graduated with a Master of Public Policy from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. While completing my degree, my capstone project involved conducting research in a team of 4 to identify best practices for an organization facilitating re-integration of formerly incarcerated persons into society. This research produced recommendations for a set of refined success criteria, a new 3-tier evaluation protocol, and a reallocation of annual spending that were delivered in a presentation to the organization. To serve policy projects at the community level, I co-led a consulting project aimed at building the capacity of a 31-organization coalition to ensure that residents of Washington, DC’s Wards 7 and 8 have equitable access to the benefits of the Anacostia River Corridor. This breadth and depth of experience has given me sharp analytical capacity, keen insight into how to clearly and consistently articulate action items, and the ability to collaborate with diverse sets of stakeholders.Accomplishments- In team of 4, conducted research that identified best practices, defined success criteria, and produced a 3-tier evaluation protocol to recommend budget reallocation for an organization facilitating re-integration of formerly incarcerated persons- For Congressional Hunger Center: advised training to achieve shared baseline of concepts to inform policies- Worked in cross-sector team of 8 to encourage DC city council to adopt Racial Equity Impact Assessment Tool for application to future legislation.
