About Steven Sexton
Originally from New Hampshire, I grew up with a passion for outdoor adventure and sports. I followed these passions to Boston for my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Emmanuel College, where I captained the men\'s soccer team. During my time in undergrad, I was fortunate enough to intern at Editas Medicine, a cutting-edge pioneer in gene editing technology. This experience was all I needed to become infatuated with the world of biotechnology, specifically in the arena of immuno-oncology. After 3 years of hands on lab experience (primary immune cell culture, flow cytometry, 3-D spheroid tumor modeling, cytotoxicity assays, etc.) working on engineered regulatory T cells for autoimmune disease and Natural Killer cell therapies for solid tumors, I moved to Colorado to begin my PhD in cancer biology at the University of Colorado. However, I quickly realized that my passion for research and cancer biology aligns better with the fast-paced, translatable world of biotech, and I cut my time in academia short to rejoin industry. After a brief stint at Artisan Biotechnologies in Boulder, CO, I made the move to the San Diego biotech scene to join Fate therapeutics, a high-powered company leading the field in iPSC-derived cancer therapies. I am always open to talking about cool science and how we can push forward the boundaries of cancer research.Outside of work, I can be found running, biking, hiking, camping, swimming, surfing, or skiing - and/or enjoying a cold craft beer with friends.
