About Steven Rosen
Lighting Designer, Advocate, Storyteller, Team Player, Business Person, Teacher. Although it was Steven’s keen interest in applying theatrical lighting techniques to traditionally non-theatrical environments that led to his founding Available Light in 1992, it was his good fortune to hitch his wagon to some of the most talented people in the industry that allowed Available Light to grow and flourish. The originality and grand scale of Steven’s designs are evident in such one-of-a-kind award-winning projects as: The Neural Climber interactive experience at The Franklin Institute, Sant Ocean Hall for The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, lighting for the spectacular 150th anniversary celebration of the Horseshoe Curve, the National Archives Rotunda—home of the U.S. Charter Documents, Washington D.C.’s International Spy Museum, as well as hundreds of large-scale and diverse trade show exhibits for everything from Plastics to Pharmaceuticals. Steven’s passion for using light to expand the human experience is matched by his commitment to responsible, high performance, and sustainable design solutions.A Fellow of the International Association of Lighting Designers and a member of the IES Museum Lighting committee, Steven has authored many articles for industry publications. He has presented at conferences across the United States and around the globe and holds a patent on LED Sports Lighting. Steven was adjunct faculty at FIT’s Graduate Program in Exhibit and Experience Design, is a founding member of The Business of Light-working to enhance the business acumen of the lighting community members, is Past President of the IALD Education Trust, and endows an annual scholarship in architectural lighting design, all of which grew out of his passion to develop the next generation of lighting designers. He is passionate about art, work, family, and creativity.
