Under general supervision of the Director of Public Safety/Chief, oversees and provides the highest level of public safety service and assist the Director of Public Safety/Chief in preventing crime and ensuring the protection of life, property, and assets through engagement and enforcement of applicable policies, laws and ordinances; manages a wide variety of related programs and services, supervises subordinate staff; and performs all other related duties as assigned. Must have the ability to make decisions at a moment’s notice, lead, supervise, develop and direct the activities of subordinates. Must have demonstrated leadership ability, be team-oriented, and committed to the direction of the department and tribal community. Must be flexible and have exemplary interpersonal skills. Integrity and outstanding moral character is a must. Must be willing to work irregular hours, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events. As second-in-command, must be willing to assume charge of public safety operations in the absence of the Director ofPublic Safety/Chief; supervise and personally perform investigations, and administrative duties. Will be responsible for supervising, developing and leading public safety officers, corporals, sergeants and dispatch personnel.
