ABOUT STEVEN DORFMAN

I am by nature a builder and problem solver who enjoys using science and technology to make a meaningful impact. My passion is creating the extraordinary and delighting customers through innovation. I define my role by leading world-class teams to build cutting-edge AI products and generate billions of dollars in revenue and long-term customer success. Currently, I am leading the Amazon Large-Scale-AI (M5) initiative, which is changing the way deep learning systems are built and deployed at Amazon. developing core technologies. I own products and services designed to improve ML applications across Amazon. Prior to Alexa AI, I built a global organization for science, data, and analytics from scratch and grew the team from 2 to about 70 people in a year. I revised the vision and roadmap by aligning the leadership, customer and partner teams, which helped the team achieve continued success through multiple AI-based rapid product development and delivery. Prior to that, at Amazon Payment Products, I grew a local analytics team into a global data science think tank, increasing the team from 10 to 25 and expanding to Europe, Asia Pacific, and India. By building cross-functional alignment and strengthening a data-driven culture, I transformed the team into proactive business enablers. Prior to Amazon, I held leadership roles in financial services, retail and CPG in consulting and enterprise environments. Data science to me means data-driven thought leadership, algorithmic innovation, and experimentation/measurement. My extensive experience in data science makes me a well-rounded technology leader and business change agent. I have a true passion for leading people with purpose and empathy. Together with my team, I have built a strong organization through vision and trust. As a scientific leader, I enjoy learning and keeping up with the times, taking an active role in the scientific community, leading teams to present papers at top conferences and file patents.
