ABOUT STEVEN CARTER

I am a Director Manufacturing IT/OT Architecture at Smith+Nephew, a global medical technology company that develops and manufactures advanced wound care, orthopedic, and sports medicine products. With over 20 years of experience in cyber-physical systems within the manufacturing sector, I am passionate about developing and applying innovative technologies and solutions to improve the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of manufacturing processes and products. My core competencies include industrial internet of things (IIoT), artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, robotics, automation, digital manufacturing, and IT-system integration. I have successfully designed and delivered SMART factories with integrated digital and IT systems for leading companies in the automotive and aerospace industries, such as Rolls-Royce, where I was a Senior Technical Specialist and a Digital Manufacturing Integration Systems Specialist. I have also collaborated with research facilities and universities on cutting-edge technology programs, such as the A*STAR ARTC facility in Singapore and the SMART Manufacturing Joint Lab. As a recognized national expert and a dyslexic thinker, I actively contribute to the development and dissemination of industry standards and best practices by serving as a technical panel member for several standards bodies, such as BSI, IEC, CEN, and UK5G, and as a conference speaker and panelist.
