ABOUT STEVEN BADELT
Steven W. Badelt, PhD.(aka Steve) is a seasoned expert in product development, engineering management, business development, and systems engineering. He has over 20 years of experience in the design and launch of medical devices, including implantables, externally-worn systems, and installed devices (e.g. MRI). Steve is the Founder & Managing Partner of Suttons Creek, The Medical Device Company for Pharma. Suttons Creek is a full-service medical device team, advocating & supporting Pharma Company\'s in their Combination Product Development. Steve holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA, and a PhD in Neuroengineering from UCLA. He has been awarded multiple awards for writing business plans (Tech Coast Angels), research (Yahoo, The Smithsonian), and leadership (Carnegie Mellon, industry). Steve presently owns or is a managing member of three corporations, including the consulting firm Suttons Creek, Inc. He is a member of the advisory board for the Los Angeles-based Greenwings, a seed-capital investment fund for technology transfer through the startup phase into the biotech/medtech market. Steve is an international Director with the Biomedical and Healthcare Working Group (BHWG) for the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). After an early career in particle physics and x-ray optics, Steve worked on the application of real-time signal processing and pharmacokinetics to induce and sustain barbiturate coma. His adventures led him from lab-to-practice as he followed his designs with custom ASICs through automated testbed development, acting as PI for pre-clinical implants, and supporting world-wide clinical trials. He moved to market research and its translation to design in the neuro-modulation space while finishing a dissertation in the design of reliable brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). Since that time, he has worked on automated systems for product hyper-customization (over 100 quidrillion permutations), low-power wireless communications for on-body personal health, auto-injectors, networked medical devices, in-home health monitors, wearable infusion pumps, and disposable injection systems.
