About Steve Herst
I am a lawyer who enjoys solving problems and explaining complicated law in plain English. In the process, I try not to take myself too seriously. Often, I solve problems involving unclaimed property and escheat issues, corporate transactional matters, or government affairs. I value collaboration. Trust is earned, but I seek to gain my clients’ trust and offer practical strategies and solutions. I am curious about my clients’ goals and eager to collaborate about the best solutions. It was not my childhood dream to be an escheat lawyer. I originally wanted to be a trash collector because riding on the back of the trash truck looked fun. Despite that, for nearly a decade, I have resolved abandoned property and escheat issues involving Delaware and more than 25 other states, providing legal counsel to businesses and state governments as a regulator and in private practice.My toddler sons also really enjoy watching the trash truck. The rest of my family probably appreciates that those trash-collecting dreams were dashed.Beyond unclaimed property, I have represented startup, early-stage, and emerging growth companies, litigated complex commercial matters in Delaware’s state and federal courts, advised clients regarding administrative and legislative issues, and assisted real estate developers with zoning and land use issues.Have a problem that needs solving?
