ABOUT STEVE COLLING
That we’re living longer than ever before is a known. The unknown is the impact that this will have upon everything familiar to us.Increasing lifespans are already reshaping how we think about work, learning, family, retirement, and purpose. The old model - study, work, retire - no longer fits. Instead, many of us will move through multiple stages: earning, caregiving, retraining, sabbaticals, second or third careers. This shift may bring more freedom — but also more uncertainty. We’ll need to stay adaptable, re-skill later in life, and make sure our health keeps pace with our ambitions. Many of us may be working into our 70s and 80s, not just because we have to, but because we want to stay engaged and purposeful. And while we’re living longer, we’re not necessarily staying healthier for longer. In many wealthy countries, the gap between lifespan and healthspan is increasing. That gap matters - as it could mean more years spent dealing with chronic illness - rather than enjoying the gift of longevity. Yet there’s still too little focus on how we can align our biological and chronological ages, and thereby compress the gap between our healthspan and lifespan. My work explores these opportunities and transitions. Designed to spark reflection and change. Offering practical insights into navigating longer, more flexible lives.
