Firefighter I and II- Emergency Medical Responder, respond to calls located in municipal, rural, urban interface, national forest, and wilderness areas. Drive fire engines to fire locations in a safe efficient manner obeying all safety, traffic laws, and following department operating guidelines, in regards to crew safety and equipment, and public safety. Upon arrival follow proper placement of apparatus on fire scenes. Duties consist of fire control suppression of structural,(residential and commercial) wildland, vehicle fires, applying the appropriate extinguishing agents to the source of the fire. Investigating fire alarms, fire and smoke detection. Reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards. Mitigation of hazardous materials. Conduct public assists when requested. Motor vehicle accident, and structure collapse rescue/ extrication. Operate various pieces of fire equipment and gear for fire suppression and control; drives and operates fire apparatus consisting of different types and classifications from type 1, type 3, and 6 wildland /structure engines with 4x4 capability, with manual and automatic transmissions. In either the engines or tender. Conduct search and rescue; ventilation and salvage operations. Provide written reports detailing specific firefighting and rescue actions taken on scene, operate fire communications equipment. Perform various aviation and ground support activities, such as setting up landing zones (LZ) for aviation helicopter resources. Initial attack on wildland fires, or deployed as a fire resource to wildland urban interface. Conducted engine operations, apparatus engineer. Conducted fire line, fire suppression-moving dirt, scratch hand line, build fire line using hand tools consisting of shovels, axes, Pulaski’s, McLeod, to control spreading wildland fires. Maintained established fire line, wet line, hand line, with engine hose lays, conduct mop-up operations. EMR respond to medical calls by evaluating, providing medical care.
