About Steve Wright
Update: After returning to complete a part-time assignment helping to innovate 3D/AM materials, I’m now officially retired from Eastman. What a great journey it’s been! Now I have more time to volunteer with local/regional STEM education groups such as STREAMWORKS (MATE underwater robotics and Robot Drone League). I’m a dedicated serial innovator and problem-solver. For almost four decades, I’ve constantly explored and applied novel approaches to solve longstanding, traditionally difficult chemical process and safety measurement problems - both in the lab and on-line in our plants. Solving tough sampling and measurement challenges has been very rewarding and a lot of fun. If we couldn’t buy it, we built it! I highly recommend on-line process analytics as a career choice for chemists and engineers. Late in my full-time career, I shifted gears to be part of Eastman\'s technical team working to define our materials’ role in the additive manufacturing (3D printing) area. Since much of 3D materials R&D is focused on analytical, it’s been a natural progression for me!
Experience
Technology Fellow
Jan 1985 — Present · Kingsport, TN, US
Additive manufacturing (3D printing) materials discovery/development, analytical support for materials testing, 3D-printing in filament and powder sintering modes. Development and implementation of novel on-line, at-line and streamlined lab analytical approaches to meet challenging process measurement needs, often in real-time - keeping our process running safely and effectively.
