Steve Speth is a Professional Associate at HDR who serves as a senior transportation engineer with experience in the areas of interchange design and operations, traffic simulation, traffic operations, transportation planning and traffic design. Mr. Speth has served as project manager and QC reviewer and expert on traffic simulation and design projects across the country. He also has functioned as a project engineer on a wide variety of design projects including interstate, urban and rural highway, traffic signal corridors, roundabout corridors, interchanges and site work. He has experience working on interchange justification, freeway design, arterial design improvements, traffic signal timing studies, transportation corridor studies, site improvement studies and traffic impact studies for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments. He also has been involved for the past eight years in both research and project related work on the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), and has written published papers on this topic. Steve has been involved with review and design of DDI’s in several different states and can provide experience in not only how to analyze the interchange, but also can give innovative suggestions on how to improve the design. Steve also has specific project experience in freeway planning and design, specializing in managed lanes ingress and egress planning and analysis. Steve’s expertise is in traffic simulation, and he serves as a national resource due to his experience and reputation in traffic simulation modeling. He has substantial knowledge with software packages for traffic engineering and planning including VISSIM, VISUM, VISTRO, Paramics, TransModeler, TSIS (CORSIM), Synchro, SimTraffic, SIDRA, RODEL, Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Passer and Transyt-7F software
