ABOUT STEVE MASLIN
Having provided HS2 with Inclusive Design lead for phase 1, from Spring 2019 until early 2020, Steve provides advice across a wide range of projects. He is Associate, Inclusive Design Consultant, Technical Authority and Subject Matter Expert at AtkinsRealis, Design Council Built Environment Expert, Senior Research Fellow at the Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems and Lecturer at several universities.Steve is also a Chartered member of the RIBA, Consultant member of the National Register of Access Consultants, member of several British Standards Institute committees and has served on the Building Research Establishment Global Standing Panel of Experts. He is particularly known for his Enabling Mind Friendly Environments activities; a subject about which he has now written a book. Steve believes that stakeholder engagement and the enabling of positive user experience within built environments leads to greater wellbeing and sustainability. He has received recognition for his design abilities by way of qualifications and prizes. He has worked within architectural practice, housing associations, social services, Shelter and local authority, and participated as a voluntary worker for several youth projects, re-entry housing, a night shelter and a survey on homelessness. Steve has worked on a wide range of projects, in his architectural and access consultancy capacity, at a strategic level, through detail design and whilst on site. Regeneration projects included those within Ebbw Vale, Cardiff Central’s Integrated Transport Scheme, Cornwall’s Heartlands, and Salford’s Pendleton. University projects, including New York University in Abu Dhabi have ranged from audits and master plan assessments to informing the design of prominent buildings.
