I chair the Department of Communication and Media Studies at North Central College in Naperville, IL. I teach courses on media studies, media history, urban studies and gender and sexuality studies. My current research focuses on the mass media in Chicago with a special emphasis on their role in the political and social struggles that have defined the city\'s history. I also write occasional newspaper op-eds and magazine articles about media policy, politics and First Amendment issues. I am active in the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and serve as president of the NCC AAUP chapter. I\'m also fairly involved in the media reform/media justice movement and in a variety of other progressive social movements.
