ABOUT STEVE GILLEN

My extensive professional career in highway design, construction, materials, and improvement projects has been marked by numerous innovations and achievements, as I have devoted my career to moving the transportation industry forward through research and quality improvements.During my many years with the Illinois Tollway engineering department I developed and implemented major programs including the materials group, the pavement asset management program, and a research program. My engineering focus is in civil and materials engineering, and the design and management of pavements. I have a strong history of improving construction quality and efficiencies, and with the deployment of new technologies to improve the performance of roadways with high and low traffic volumes.In addition to researching and implementing advances in materials and processes, I was responsible for directing numerous aspects of multi-billion highway construction/improvement projects, providing technical support, plans and specifications for the projects. My superb leadership abilities helped me align the efforts of teams to work toward a common goal, and my management and organizational abilities enhanced the efficiency of complex, multi-stage projects. Quality control and assurance are particular areas of expertise for me, and my efforts in this area have resulted in significant resource savings to the Tollway and related industries.My profile outlines my background and experience, and includes multiple examples of my skills and achievements. It is my hope to bring my technical expertise, project management abilities, and excellent interpersonal skills to advancing the goals of my new employer, Horner & Shifrin, and to any others they team with on future transportation / civil engineering projects.
