He has been with The Boeing Company since then. In 1987, he completed an MS degree in Physics at the University of Washington. At Boeing, Steve has worked as an Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer, an Optical and Infrared Engineer, is currently Technical Lead Engineer (TLE), Boeing Designated Expert (BDE) for the Commercial flight deck display optics and lighting systems and has worked on the 737, 747, 757, 767, KC-46 Tanker, 787. Steve has flight deck, interior, and exterior lighting experience, was a test witness only FAA E-UM, has 2 patents, 9 published papers, and over 500 Boeing reports and presentations. He is a member of the SAE A-20 Aircraft Lighting Committee, SID Senior Member, Senior Member, IES, CIE, ISCC, and CORM.Ellersick became a Boeing Associate Technical Fellow in 2006 & a Technical Fellow in 2019. Steve founded the Boeing Lighting & Display Optics Community of Excellence in 2006 and continues as its leader.
