About Soraya Terrab
Highlights: PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics with expertise in numerical data analysis, ML, discontinuity detection, and filtering. Experienced in imaging science and advanced image processing, specializing in automated printer quality control using scanned images of production print. Developed innovative color uniformity and maintenance algorithms, resulting in two patents as the primary inventor. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic; proficient in Spanish-I am interested in extracting key features and patterns from numerical data, whether be it discontinuities/oscillations in simulation data or objects/edges in an image. During my PhD in Computational & Applied Mathematics, I focused on the following key areas: 1) low-rank/PCA decomposition of high-dimensional parameter data using active subspaces, 2) discontinuity detection and developing a hybrid filter that extracts the shock location about discontinuities, and 3) post-processing filter methods to reduce the spread of spurious oscillations about shocks. In my Imaging Science internships (summer 2021, 2023), I applied complementary numerical data analysis and feature extraction techniques in imaging data of continuous-feed production prints to: 1) improve color uniformity for secondary color (RGB) prints instead of primary color (CMYK) data, and 2) assess printhead maintenance status from limited printer feature marks. In addition to my current interests in numerical data analysis and post-processing, my past career in manufacturing and quality engineering has been invaluable in providing real-world experience and training me on workplace teamwork, training programs, documentation, and leadership. I am also passionate about STEM outreach, and one of my recent endeavors during the COVID pandemic was co-founding and managing the Mines Mathematics and Computing Collaborative (MMCC), which provided math and computing workshops to Denver Public Schools (DPS) students.
