About Stephen Welch
Stephen served in the United States Marine Corps from 1988 to 1992 (Combat Veteran of Gulf War and ended his enlistment contract as Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival). He completed his full military obligations with an Honorable Discharge. He has worked in the oil and gas industry since 1994 and has successfully completed numerous high profile “ultra-deepwater projects around the world, primary with Halliburton/Baroid and MI-SWACO. He has expert knowledge of drilling in Deepwater and Ultra Deepwater wells globally. Stephen has extensive experience in HTHP wells, ERD wells, Riser-less Drilling, MPD applications, and is well trained in the use of all water-based mud (WBM), synthetic based (SBM)/ oil based (OBM) mud systems, and completion fluids. Having held the position of Halliburton Project Coordinator for Statoil’s biggest project in Venezuela – Plataforma Deltana Offshore Deepwater Project and has trained and mentored over 100 new fluid engineers at the beginning of their careers. Stephen was a Keynote speaker on several Spud-In Meetings at the beginning of large projects, as well as speaking at the After-Action Review Meetings with several major oil companies throughout his career. He has always been the “GO TO” Mud Engineer on every project and has received many Accommodation Letters and MVP Awards for the outstanding job performed and participation in Safety.
