ABOUT STEPHEN MCKENZIE

I grew up here in Victoria behind the cabbage patch fields of Mattick’s Farm in Saanich. One of my first jobs was a Times Colonist paperboy, delivering the news to my neighbors, including ol’ Bill Mattick. This is where I first discovered the value of hard work, good service and early mornings. As a kid I trekked through those farm fields to Lochside Park where I played fastball in the summer and soccer during the winters. As an adult, I came back to coach fastball, and I never stopped playing soccer for the Cordova Bay Bobcats. It was growing up in Cordova Bay where I learned the value of giving back, leadership and teamwork. My first real career was in the culinary arts where, after I put myself through several years in a Culinary Program, I went on to do my Apprenticeship at The Aerie Resort. After three years, I finished and I was inspired by a Chef to do something more, which led me right back to school. Marketing, Business and Writing is what I loved and after 4 years I finished my degree at UNBC and came straight back to Victoria and opened my own business. In the spring of 2005 had a chat with a couple of my soccer teammates, who happened to work with IG Wealth Management, and I started to ask questions about what they did. Time does fly. Today I’m working just a few minutes from Lochside Park where I still play soccer with the Bobcats every week. I walk through the fields of Mattick’s Farm, but now it’s down the 8th fairway past my mother’s house. I still deliver papers, but in the form of strategic financial plans to our clients. My Life’s Passion Family comes first and I have been with my wife and brilliant entrepreneur, Anna, for 15 years and we make a great team. We have two wonderful children and a chocolate lab named Charlie McKenzie, an SPCA rescue, and a flock of backyard chickens. It truly is a wonderful life.
