   Responsible for conducting field inspections of health care facilities. Determines if the facility is in compliance by using the life safety code NFPA 101 & NFPA 99. When deficiencies are noted, prepare a statement of deficiency ready to be sent to the facility. Conducts complete and extensive fire safety surveys of hospitals, nursing homes, ICF/IID, ambulatory surgical centers, birthing centers and all other health care occupancies, for compliance with the applicable editions of the Life Safety Code. Summarizes all inspection findings during an exit conference at the completion of each survey. These exit conferences are attended by the health care provider and/or the architect, director of engineering, or maintenance supervisor or the representative of the facility during which legally adopted code reference is made to conditions cited. Assists the provider in the development of a Plan of Correction. Explains the equivalency concepts of the Fire Safety Evaluation System (FSES) or direct compliance with the code. Reviews state approved plans and is able to understand blueprints for location of fire walls, smoke walls, HVAC shafts, linen chutes, etc. Performs occupancy inspections of new construction and/or renovations for conformance with the plans and applicable codes. Meets with architects, engineers, administrative staff, etc, during these surveys to discuss deficient areas. Conducts telephone communications with providers and/or their representatives to provide information and answers questions pertaining to Life Safety Code issues. Demonstrates awareness of the vulnerable populations the organization serves by identifying, providing, and advocating for resources, services, communication methods, and policies that would help those populations achieve health equity.
