Epping, GB

Helping create a cleaner, more active & less car-dependent set of Essex communities on the edge of London, extending to genuinely rural areas outside the M25. Unique benefits of this attractive area include Epping Forest itself and multiple Central Line tube stations in zones 4-6. Proximity of motorways, some connectivity issues within the area and affluence make high (multiple) car ownership a challenge. Long term aims include maximising the sustainability of travel within and to the District in line with the emerging Local Plan. Shorter term, seeking innovative solutions to facilitate and increase active travel and public transport use through bid applications, developer funding and working with local communities, employers, transport operators and other partners. Epping Forest is owned and managed by Corporation of London and the Conservators. The Forest has been even more in demand during the Covid-19 crisis, but it is clear that car-based travel to and through the forest is taking its toll on a nationally important asset. Until I understand how I will be working on visitor travel, I will just remind all my London contacts that Epping, Theydon Bois, Loughton and Buckhurst Hill tube stations are all within 10-15 mins walk of Forest areas and Chingford on the Overground is both immediately adjacent and allows off peak carriage of full size bikes from Liverpool Street.
