About Stephen Kennedy

Stephen currently leads the Map Design team at Mapbox, and founded the brands New Market Goods and LATLONG.SHOP. Most recently, he was the Design Director for the small but mighty design team at UrbanFootprint. In previous roles, he was an interaction designer focusing on emerging mobility tech at Sidewalk Labs, financial inclusion challenges in East Africa at IDEO.org, and civic technology development as a Design & Technology Fellow for the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, working on digital tools to make financial markets more equitable. His background spans industrial and interaction design, cartography, participatory planning, and urban design. An Atlanta native, he holds a BS in Industrial Design from Georgia Tech and a Master in City Planning from MIT.
