ABOUT STEPHEN W. SMITH

STEPHEN W. SMITH, PhD, FASIC, CLIA, CAIS, is an agricultural and water resources engineer. Wade Water LLC is a closely-held firm providing consulting services in SCADA, efficient water delivery, and irrigation design. Stephen founded Aqua Engineering, Inc. in 1975. For 25 years, Stephen has operated a farming enterprise, Buena Vida Farm, in Larimer County, CO. Current board positions include Fort Collins - Loveland Water District. His irrigation engineering experience includes projects throughout the United States, Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East. He served as affiliate faculty at Colorado State University for 20 years. In 1996, he authored Landscape Irrigation: Design and Management, a textbook. He is a founding partner of Regenesis Management Group (aka SWIIM) and holds two patents for his research work. Stephen is past national president and a fellow of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC). In 2009, he was president of the Irrigation Association and served on the IA\'s Board of Directors for many years. He currently is the vice president of Louden Irrigating Canal & Reservoir Co. Stephen was honored by the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) with the 2015 Roy Williams Memorial Award for significant contributions to the irrigation industry. With the 2018 formation of the Irrigation Innovation Consortium, Stephen agreed to serve as the interim Executive Director and Executive Committee member. Specialties: irrigation engineering, water rights investigations, irrigation system design, irrigation automation and control, SCADA, canal modernization, software development, irrigation scheduling and management, irrigation operational monitoring and gate actuation.
