About Stephen Tu

Stephen Tu serves as Deputy Executive Officer of Station Experience within the Executive Office for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro), overseeing operations, planning, and communications responsibilities throughout the Greater Los Angeles region. Stephen is currently leading a new Station Experience unit, charged with collaboration across key partners to accelerate improvements to public safety, cleanliness and customer experience through thoughtful, tactical, and equitable interventions to all existing and future Metro stations.In 2023, Stephen also led a range of customer-facing projects including Bus Lanes and Transit Signal Priority expansion under Metro\'s NextGen Speed & Reliability Tactical Transit Engineering team, public safety and cleanliness programs, and innovative technologies from All Door Bus Boarding to Camera Bus Lane Enforcement. During his term at LA Metro, Stephen has also led strategic initiatives within the Executive Office, transformed large scale special event operations for Metro Rail, managed real-time bus & rail service alerts/disruptions and assisted with Transit Access Pass (TAP) fare collection/mobile fare payments, ExpressLanes congestion reduction initiative, Dodger Stadium Express, and public safety partners.Having worked at the Federal, County, and Municipal levels of various transportation agencies, as well as the private sector, Stephen has progressively developed a comprehensive portfolio of leadership and experience in bus and rail operations, service planning and scheduling, special events, crisis management, fare collection, smart card and mobile device technologies, customer service, marketing, communications, social media, research, system safety and security.Stephen holds a Bachelor of Arts, Urban Studies from University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
