ABOUT STEPHEN RAGGETT-BATCHEN

I have started my new chapter with the Bridges team at MHB consultants. Previously within the Rail and Civils team at Fairhurst, I led in the delivery of a variety of projects for a number of clients - footbridges, road and rail bridges, culverts, coastal defences and marina expansions. Over my time with ScotlandTranServ (4G contract) and Amey (NMC) I worked in both the Network Bridges and Major Bridges teams managing and maintaining the SW trunk road contract in behalf of Transport Scotland. I delivered a number of small and large scale schemes such as the upgrading of gantry maintenance hardstandings and safety barriers on a number of gantries on the M8, removal of copes from overbridges at junction 15 on the M8, design of a new parapet cope to allow pedestrian fencing upgrades in Inverkip, as well as working with other team members on a large scale bridge refurbishment project, smaller scale general maintenance schemes and undertaking and parapet assessments over the network. My experience also consisted in helping to lead a team delivering a number of schemes on the major bridges within the area that has helped to continue my development and experience to date - including the Kingston Bridge Complex, White Cart Viaduct and Port Eglinton Viaduct. This has built on my previous 4 years experience working within the bridges/structures sector of the Trunk Road Network. While with Capita (Infrastructure Scotland) I worked on a variety of projects including structural inspections, assessments and feasibility options for future maintenance. I undertook works on bridges, retaining walls, harbours, multi-storey carparks, historical structures and rail structures. I worked with a variety of local authority clients as well with other Capita teams in the UK for other clients - including the £61million Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3 project.Prior to this I worked on the delivery of the south section of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route as part of the Designers Engineering Team. Before the site role of this project, I was involved in the design of AWPR. Through the process I utilised structural analysis programmes and developed the design aspect of my professional portfolio.I was also part of the team that delivered contracts 3 and 4 of the Fastlink project in Glasgow seconded to Glasgow City Council for 9 months.I am a fully Chartered Engineer and I am registered with the Engineering Council as well as the Institution of Civil Engineers.
