As Founder, Chairman and CEO of Reconciliation Energy Transition Inc.(RETI) since February 2021, I focus on developing energy transition projects that prioritize material Indigenous equity ownership and governance at the operational level. RETI’s mission is to drive generational wealth creation for Canada’s Indigenous communities while enabling their meaningful participation in the decarbonization economy. Through strategic leadership, RETI has achieved significant milestones, including securing the Calgary Carbon Hub Permit, ideally located to support emitters in the Calgary Region and beyond. Emitters include natural gas fired power generation for data centres looking to locate in the Calgary Region and the BECCS based captured CO2 from the pulp & paper industry in the BC interior.I founded Project Reconciliation in 2017 to be a First Nations-led initiative to secure majority Indigenous ownership in Canada’s Trans Mountain pipeline. Respecting that the TMX traverses Indigenous traditional lands across Western Canada, we proposed an inclusive, majority ownership opportunity in a strategic coalition where all First Nations of Western Canada were invited to participate. Under our model to de-risk the project via a syndicated non-recourse bond issue, First Nations would acquire, without up-front equity investment, a majority TMX interest from the existing owners, the Canadian government. With ownership, Indigenous peoples have a seat at the table as decision-makers, for shared responsibility in project impact, environmental monitoring and protection with the benefits of economic development.Further, I have successfully been involved in the strategic business development and start-up of seven energy companies. The most significant, Artumas Group Inc, reached an enterprise value of $980 million with over 200 employees in Canada, Tanzania and Mozambique. • Led in capital funding of over US$700 million in North American, Europe, and Middle East.• Secured over sq. km of oil and gas concessions in the Ruvuma delta basin of Tanzania and Mozambique and was instrumental in proving up a world-class natural gas resource.• Conceptualized, initiated, negotiated and developed a fully integrated energy project in Tanzania with capital expenditures of over US$220 million.Key-note speaker at numerous industry forums and international conferences.
