ABOUT STEPHEN LEWIS

My research interests focus on the role of translational control and novel translation initiation mechanisms in the development and progression of cancer.Translational control is the regulation of protein production, which ultimately determines the activities of a cell. My research is currently investigating the mechanisms underlying novel translation initiation mechanisms, such as internal ribosome entry site (IRES)-mediated translation, and their role in cellular processes and disease. Specifically, my group is focusing on the role of deregulated translational control in cancer and how such dysregulation contributes to the development of the disease. These investigations may lead to the discovery of new biomarkers for specific cancers and potential therapeutic targets.
