I currently oversee all functions of the Community Development Department including near- and long-term planning, zoning, subdivision regulations, economic development, building safety and inspections, code enforcement, 911 addressing, mapping, floodplain administration and other related development services. I’m also responsible for direct support to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment. I supervise three full-time and one part-time staff members — Building Official, Building Inspector, Planner and Code Enforcement Officer — while responsible for managing a operating budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects totaling more than my time working at the City of Parkville, I’m proud to have successfully completed many long-term projects & priorities: I updated our City\'s Development Code in its entirety for the first time since 1954, adopted the Highway 45 Corridor Plan, submitted applications for and was awarded $2.7 million in state and federal funding for transportation improvements along Missouri Highway 9, and helped establish the 9 Highway Corridor Community Improvement District (CID). I oversaw annexation, relocation, platting, rezoning and site plan review for the new Missouri American Water Co. treatment plant ($45 million valuation). I also reviewed platting applications for over 20 new subdivisions totaling 745 residential lots, and an emergency and general aviation helicopter landing facility for The National Golf Club of Kansas City.In 2021, our department issued 316 permits ($65.4 million valuation), bringing $544,500 in revenue to the City’s general fund. In 2017, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) improved the City’s Building Code Effectiveness Grading Classification ratings to 4 for residential properties and 3 for commercial and industrial properties, higher than Platte County, State of Missouri, and national averages.

Where do I begin? I guess you could say I’ve always been curious to know why cities exist, how they came about and why they’re shaped the way they are today. I’ve always found the subject fascinating considering land use decisions have long-term impacts on communities, yet can be made rather instantaneously. Surely someone is putting thought and planning into these decisions! It wasn’t until I was in the Environmental Design Studies program at K-State when I realized I truly was passionate about improving the physical landscape of communities and decided to pursue community planning as a profession. I’m a well-organized, highly motivated planning professional who takes on challenging projects in both team environments and at the individual capacity. My strengths include researching, writing, communication, and paying close attention to detail. In my free time I enjoy reading a wide spectrum of literature related to planning and land use economics; whether books from Thomas Sowell and Arthur O’Sullivan, publications from the Urban Land Institute and Brookings Institute, articles from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic CityLab, articles from Planning and ArcNews magazines, or columns from Paul Farmer. It’s my goal to use my knowledge, skills and personal experience — gained through academia and practice — to address and solve planning problems relevant to our everyday lives.
