Stephanie Yu is the Executive Vice President & U.S. Lead of Business & Legal Affairs at Sony Music. In addition to overseeing the legal operations and strategy for all frontline Sony Music labels in the U.S, Stephanie oversees A&R Administration and Business Affairs Administration. With nearly two decades of experience negotiating music industry agreements with various stakeholders, Stephanie understands the evolution of the music business, and the platforms used by labels and artists to reach new audiences and the intersection of music, technology, sports and entertainment. Stephanie came to Sony Music in 2005 as a litigator, joining Sony from the firm of Covington & Burling. In 2007, she moved to the transactional side at Sony Music Corporate, which ultimately led her to the revived Epic Records in 2011. Stephanie rose to the head of Business Affairs at Epic where she worked under Sylvia Rhone until 2024, when she stepped into her current role. Stephanie was named a Rainmaker by HITS magazine in 2022 and has been included in Billboard’s Women In Music list on multiple occasions. She sits on the Executive Committee of the Entertainment Law Initiative and has worked to develop better artist relationships and education through the ‘Artists Forward’ initiative at Sony. Stephanie reports directly to Julie Swidler, Executive Vice President & Global General Counsel of Sony Music and is based in Manhattan, New York.
