I understand the pressure to put up a tough front, the feeling of being unable to fully be yourself, and the secret shame of leading a team while struggling with motivation and burnout. The poor retention rates for women in STEM, especially engineering, reflect my experiences. 40% of women with engineering degrees leave the field, and 1 in 4 women (vs. 1 in 10 men) leave after age 30. Those numbers haven’t budged significantly in 20 years.Know what else hasn’t budged? The amount of mindset, communication, and leadership training most technical professionals receive.
