About Stephanie Yeung

The better cared for a team is, the better the efficiency and productivity of an organization. I thrive on helping others build the skills and competencies they need to feel confident at work and take care of the people they’re working with. As a DEI practitioner, consultant and facilitator in the Santa Barbara area, I’ve had the privilege of leading change in: LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENTWhen diagnosing the long-term obstacles to success in Cate\'s DEI program, I discovered that feedback, coaching, mentorship and strong communication skills were competencies that needed to be strengthened. I designed a leadership development program for middle and senior leaders to run alongside the DEI programming. As a result, collaboration and rapport building increased. STRATEGIC PLANNING WITH AN EMPHASIS ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSIONMost institutions hire out around strategic planning or DEI planning. I led Cate\'s Inclusion teams through a coherent, compelling, in-house strategic plan, and we were well prepared to support the student and staff community through the Black@ movement. As a consultant, I’m sought out for similar work to help other schools find their own process. LEADING CHANGE BY MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY AREWhen seeking to create lasting change, it’s important to avoid making people feel alienated. At Cate, we shifted the baseline competency training for faculty and established ways to give people more voice and choice around identity, systems and structure. The new curriculum offered a way for people to opt into training at their own pace with different entry points based on individual interest. Between military service, my graduate work and dissertation, teaching English, and DEI work, I am most proud of my ability to learn deeply and continuously, and to put new knowledge into action. My graduate work has given me the ability to take in a broad range of data and distill it into what would be best for the company, ensuring that internal learning and development stay at forefront of best practice. If you’re curious about approaches to DEI in leadership, hiring or any other area of organization development, please contact me. Equipping staff with the core managerial competencies to develop cultures that foster a sense of belonging amongst the whole team is where I excel. We spend so much time in our workplaces – enabling inclusive and supportive workspaces is nothing less than essential.
